I have seen the most genius concepts in the past year. “We could not be happier for one Min-Kyu Choi. Said designer, who graduated recently from the Royal College of Art. He was recently showered with laud after the Folding Plug nabbed the gold in the Brit Insurance Design contest.
The show has opened where the show-stopper was a plug. Min-Kyu Choi impressed every passer by with his neat, market-ready plug that folds down to the width of an Apple MacBook Air. Choi says that
“The MacBook Air is the world’s thinnest laptop ever. But, here in the UK, we still use the world’s biggest three-pin plug”.
This plug is just 10mm wide when it’s folded. The two live pins swivel 90 degrees to unfold it and the plastic surround folds back around the pins therefore, the face of the plug looks the same as a standard UK plug. Choi created a multi-plug adaptor, a compact standard plug sized unit with space for three folded plugs to slot in and also one that charges USB devices.
Unfortunately, we are still no closer to understand when some moneyed manufacturer will pick this up and start producing it, but I wish this prize will reinforce its awesomeness and will catch one’s eye.
