Platform screen doors at train or subway stations screen the platform from the train. A relatively new addition to many metro systems around the world, with some platform doors later added to the system.

The Platform Screen Door System is designed to satisfy the growing demand from mass transit applications to provide increased passenger comfort and safety in fully automated, driverless metro applications.

Platform screen doors are full height, total barriers between the station ceiling and floor, while platform edge doors are full height, but do not reach the ceiling. So, they do not create a total barrier.

Platform screen doors help:

  • Prevent murders and suicide attempts by pushing.
  • Prevent passengers dropping objects onto the track. or falling onto the track
  • Reduce the risk of accidents, when trains passing through the station at high speeds.
  • To ensure that passengers can only move between platform and the train when the train is topped.
  • Improve climate control within the station (ventilation, heating and air conditioning are more effective when the station is physically isolated from the tunnel).
  • Limit the piston effect created by trains
  • Security as access to the tracks and tunnels is restricted.
  • Eliminates the need for motormen or conductors when used in conjunction with Automatic Train Operation, so reducing manpower costs.
  • Segregate the platform from the track to improve the passengers safety and the platform environment.
  • Prevents litter build up on the track which can be a fire risk.

So, we hope Delhi Metro come with Platform screen doors as soon as possible to make Delhi people life’s more secure and safe.
