A Longines Hour Angle that belonged to a person, Major Ross F. Cole, who was one of the leading pilots in the Second World War, is now going to sell for $20,000 to $30,000 via Antiquorum’s December New York auction.
Today, I am talking about one of the most interesting Hour Angles and it is coming to us via Antiquorum’s December New York auction. This watch is belonged to a Major Ross F. Cole who would become the first Group Commander of the 22nd Operations Group. This group was a unit of 44 fighter and bomber pilots that was formed in response to England’s declaration of war on Germany. Antiquorum provides this opportunity to inherit militaria of this group of pilots whose emblem was “Ducemus” (means “We Lead”).
The 22nd Operations Goup flew both B-25’s and B-18s and was among the first called to respond after the Pearl Harbor attacks. The 22nd Operations Group was on its way to the South Pacific within 16 hours of the attack, despite base being in Langley, VA.
Antiquorum is opening up its doors for us Hodinkee-folk this December 7th, coming Monday.
So, go and enjoy this auction.
