‘eMarketing’ I have heard, ‘eBook’ I have heard but it is amazing to hear ‘eReader’. Today, I have read a different article that Asus is going to get ready to enter the eReader market. Asus, the computer manufacturer famous for its Eee PCs is planning to launch two devices: a premium version and a budget in which the premium version will most likely to have dual screens feature. But I have also read that the main drawback of these devices would be that they will not be based on e-ink screens which are the technology that enables the current breed of eReaders to display crisp letters. And also Asus will use conventional LCD screens.
It is sad that the article did not contain too much detail, I really do not know much about this product like what eBook formats they will support? Or what operating system these eBook readers will run on? I can not provide these details, but I can tell you that the budget version of these devices will be cheap (starting at $150) at least, based on LCD and feature dual-screen touchscreen LCDs.
Is LCD Screens possible for eReader?
The dual-screen display and the price have brought an attention towards it. Its price is good and the wish for having two screens is also good but practically it is not possible of having a single and larger screen. I think it is not possible that an eReader with an LCD screen will be able to hit the market as LCDs requires a lot of energy unlike e-ink screens. While without recharging, you can readin books on a Kindle then the eReader will need to be recharged far more often. Its weight carries a heavy and large battery pack.
The main benefit of using LCDs is that they basically turn the device into a small computer. Asus also plans to add Wi-Fi and a webcam to the high-end model.
I am not too much happy and impressed about this idea, I even do not know the size of the screens and the budget version will really feature two screens or not. The price of this device will most likely be higher than $150.
