Matchbox toys are a favorite with the young and old alike for generations and that explain their collectible status. Recently, a model car enthusiast has made a history by spending approx. $15,000 on a rare 1955 prototype of a Matchbox Lesney dumper 
truck. The mysterious bidder, whose identity is still unknown, rang in with the winning offer at the auction in Harrogate, North Yorks. and took place to mark the Matchbox Club’s 25th and final annual convention.
On March 26, model buffs from across the globe descended on the Holiday Inn in Harrogate to attend the sale of some of the most desirable toys around. The Lesney dumper truck, was at the top of the list which was produced by the Matchbox car company in 1955 as a prototype for a range of larger toys, though the up-scale version never materialized after the toy giant opted for the miniature vehicles , which have now become world famous.
