Volkswagen is set to launch new Touareg at Detroit Auto Show (North American International Auto Show) in January. I don’t have much detail but according to a source VW will introduce its new Touareg with different power plant choices including a hybrid variant during its first model year.

The hybrid is expected to include the supercharged 3.0-liter TSI V6 from the Audi S4 mated to a 38 kW electric motor. It combines the total power of 374 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. This new petrol-electric Volkswagen Touareg should sprint to 60 mph in less than seven seconds and return a combined EPA fuel economy figure of about 26 mpg with an all-wheel drive power train.
We should not expect this new Touareg’s sale until the second half of 2010. The company plans to launch Touareg, VW’s first production hybrid which will be the first of many new hybrid and electric models by 2013. Martin Winterkorn, CEO is keen for VW to become an ‘innovator’ in all alternative-fuel vehicles because he believes it to be a ‘crucial technology’.
VW will also begin trials of 20 examples of its plug-in hybrid Golf Twin Drive in Berlin in January. The Twin Drive is the first plug-in of firm and can run for more than 30 miles on electric power alone. The Twin Drive also includes a 2.0-litre diesel engine and gives a combined power output of 172bhp.
So, you have to wait for some months.
