Sir Malcolm Campbell, the English racing motorist, wanted to surpass his previous Sunbeam Blue Bird’s achievement of the 150 mph barrier, he drove the 950bhp Napier-engined car that helped him to reach 200 mph and to achieve the land speed record of 206.96mph at Daytona Beach in February 1928.
Now at Bonhams, as a model of Bluebird 1928 which is the land speed record car driven by Sir Malcolm Campbell marks its presence, it is definitely make die-hard collectors feel weak in the knees. It is estimated to fetch between $45,000 to $51,000, this beautifully crafted model is about weighs about 2lb and 47cm long.
On July 2, a silver-plated model of Bluebird 1928 is to go under the hammer as part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
