There is a good news for book readers; Google has launched its 24×7 online e-book store, challenging Apple and Amazon by presenting a potential support to self-governing booksellers. As Apple is continuously trying to filch the promising e-book market away from Amazon’s Kindle by its product Apple iPad, world famous search engine king Google has jumped into the middle of the combat involving the monster of online retail and the emperor of the widgets. Moreover, rather complicating the e-book format combat, Google has put its power behind the EPUB and PDF formats, which are also being used by many other online e-book stores.
Apart from this, Google has also released a version of e-book software for Apple’s iPad as well as for other hi-tech mobile phones and tablets, which are using Google’s Android operating system. The Google e-book store lets its user to read books from any PC via a web browser, by which it has left the door open for Amazon’s Kindle owners to read books via Google e-book store by using the Kindle’s inbuilt browser.
As a result, Amazon has also announced that it will also go after Google’s lead and allow other websites to sell its e-books. This will eventually leave Apple with the most limiting platform, as its users can only purchase e-books via Apple’s iBookstore, which can be read only on its widgets.
